Drinking caffeine during night shift may be more disruptive to daytime sleep than it is for night time sleep according to "Healthy Sleep News".

The study suggests that trying to sleep during the day outside of the body's normal circadian rythm is more difficult when caffeine has been used to offset tiredness while working nights. Also caffeine during night shift has adverse consequences on the quality of daytime sleep.

In short, it is hard enough to get some sleep during the day without throwing a couple pots of coffee in the mix.

I sleep with a small fan next to my head to create "sleep noise" or "white noise". The constant noise helps disguise the fact that the rest of the world is going as if you are not on nights.

Also, the Shift Shade is a great noise insulator to outside noises (cars, dogs barking and sirens). Sorry but the shades do not do much for phones, doorbells or family members. I suggest cutting off ringers, make it where doorbells will not disrupt your sleep and educate your family members (maybe calling them at 2am and wanting to talk...they will get the idea after a couple of nights).

Keep the room you sleep in during the day cool. The fan that I talked about will create the sleep noise and help keep you cool.

I like to use more covers and have the fan blowing directly on me while I sleep.

Also, the Shift Shade is a good insulator to help keep cool air in during warm weather.

Understand how working nights affects you. If you are one of the lucky ones where you get off and sleep 7 or 8 hours with the tv on then great but if you are in the 99% of night workers where getting 4 or 5 good hours of sleep a day is wonderful then taking a hard look at how working nights changes your mood or how you interact with your family may be benefitial.

I do not recommend attending a birthday party at Chuck E Cheese while on nights.
